Smart Grid Implementation - ADICA

The energy industry is at a tipping point – facing a paradigm shift in the way that electricity is produced, delivered and used. In order to provide electricity that is reliable, affordable and clean, the electric grid is getting smarter.

In 2009, ADICA chaired an Executive Forum on Revolutionizing the Smart Grid. Forum participants from industry leading regulators, utilities, visionaries and solution providers discussed a wide spectrum of smart grid implementation issues: policy, technology, standards, transmission & distribution, renewables, battery technology, transportation, security, legal, IT, marketing programs, customer behavior, and software solutions. One clear finding of the forum is the need for collaboration on smart grid implementation.

ADICA partners with Argonne National Laboratory to develop advanced analytics used to make informed operational, investment, and policy decisions in a Smart Grid environment. Our Smart Market® software provides unique and valuable insights for smart grid implementation planning.

ADICA and Argonne applied  Smart Market® software to evaluate a wide array of smart grid implementation issues, including the impact of demand response programs, PHEVs, renewable energy, hydro power operations, and energy storage on power plant and electric grid operations, electricity consumption, emissions, electricity prices, and company profits. Smart Market® software is distributed for use on five continents.

In early 2010, the Illinois' Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy signed a formal agreement to jointly develop and deploy smart grid technologies and business models.
